FAQ - Can I use fabric softener?

DO NOT USE ANY FABRIC SOFTENERS. Fabric softeners are extremely detrimental to your performance garment and will strip away all surface coatings or treatments. 

Follow your product care instructions on the care label found on the inside of your garment. If you have removed the label please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to guide you through the proper care instructions.

Washing your garment with fabric softener will void the warranty.

FAQ - How do I maintain DWR?

Your garment contains a durable water repellant finish (DWR) on the exterior of the fabric that serves as a first barrier to penetration of the fabric by external water. This DWR finish degrades over time and will occasionally need to be replenished. You will be able to tell when this water repellency has degraded because water will cease to bead up on the fabric. On soft-shell fabrics water may pass through due to this degradation. On hard-shell fabrics even though the waterproof membrane is still keeping the water from passing through, the performance will be increased if you maintain the DWR finish with regular treatments.

We suggest treating the DWR finish at the same time as your regular garment washings.

Once the garment has been washed, we recommend using Granger's aftercare products surface water-repellency. Available in both spray-on and wash-in versions.

FAQ - How do I wash my eVent hardshell?

Proper care and maintenance instructions are located on the inside tag of your garment.  Please follow instructions properly. Washing your eVent® garment regularly is recommended and will actually enhance your garment's performance.

First prepare your garment for wash by  zipping all zippers (main, pockets, pits) closed, un-cinch all cords, and close all Velcro® fasteners. You can wash your garment in a regular washing machine, in cold water, on a gentle cycle. Put it through the rinse cycle twice, to be sure the detergent residue washes out.  Do not use bleach or fabric softeners, do not dry clean, or store when wet. We recommend you hang dry your eVent garment. However, you can dry your garment in a medium temperature dryer for 10-15 minutes, and if necessary, use a warm iron.

Please use a mild non-detergent cleaning agent to wash your Westcomb eVent® garment. Liquid detergents can leave a residue on your garment that will interfere with the DWR performance.  We recommend using a cleaning agent specially formulated for eVent®  fabrics such as Granger's® 30 Cleaner (www.grangers.co.uk) or Nikwax's Tech Wash® (www.nikwax.com).

FAQ - How do I wash my HutteriteDown garment?

Your Westcomb HutteriteDown garment is made from pristine goose down that needs to be properly cared for maximum loft and longevity.  While it is possible to clean the garment yourself using a performance wash, such as Granger's® 30 Down Cleaner or Nikwax's® Down Wash, we highly recommend having your down garment professionally cleaned by a service that specializes in down care.  Should you self-clean your HutteriteDown garment be sure to use a front-loading washing machine. Damages caused during laundering are not covered under warranty.

FAQ - How should I store my HutteriteDown garment?

While one of the great features of your down garment is that it can be compressed tightly for backpacking, your garment should not be compressed for extremely long periods of time. They should be stored loose in a dry well ventilated area.

FAQ - How do I wash my PrimaLoft insulated garment?

We recommend washing your Westcomb Primaloft® insulated garment in a front loading machine using a cleaning agent specially formulated for performance fabrics such as Granger's® 30 Cleaner (www.grangers.co.uk) or Nikwax's Tech Wash® (www.nikwax.com). Cold water machine wash on gentle with 2 rinses.  Tumble dry on medium setting for 30 minutes to re-loft the insulation. Damages caused from laundering are not covered under warranty.
